What You’ll Do

We are looking for a motivated software engineer to add to our team of experienced engineers, as well as a highly technical web application development team. You’ll get hands-on experience in the area of large distributed systems.

A multi-billion-document search engine with sophisticated data mining capabilities powers our social media monitoring product. Responsibilities

  • Hands-on individual contributions for a search-based platform that indexes and analyzes billions of documents in real-time.
  • Contribute to design efforts for new components of the system, as well as internal and external APIs
  • Design, implement, and verify major new components of the system, refactor and improve the existing system as necessary.
  • Stay ahead of scalability and performance issues with proper planning, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Take ownership of assigned areas of software coding and produce high quality code

Requirements

  • 5+ year of large scale systems engineering
  • 3+ years of Java development
  • BS in CS, engineering, or related area required, MS+ preferred
  • You love to work in a team of experienced and motivated engineers
  • Passion for software craftsmanship
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An innate ability for problem solving
  • Self-directed and able to work once guidance is given

The Nice to Haves

  • Experience working with and using large amounts of social media data.
  • Large scale search engine work and information retrieval
  • Experience modifying Lucene (ours is heavily modified, but we can drop in a new version as needed)
  • Strong understanding of data structures
  • Knowledge of the Hadoop stack, Big Data and Machine Learning, also Inverted tables, AI, HDFS, and Map Reduce
  • Performance optimization, monitoring, and debugging large, distributed systems
  • Speak and write a foreign language
  • A hobby you like to talk about (we have musicians, photographers, soccer and Ping-Pong enthusiasts, beer connoisseurs …
